HEAD OF FACULTY
The Academy makes available, both in America and Scotland, instruction in traditional and practical Herbalism, nutrition, health promoting lifestyles and healing.
The practice of herbalism as science and craft, is best learned through study, observation and guidance from a trained and experienced Herbalist as well as from personal experience. Gain this knowledge, learn techniques, observe an active herbal practice and obtain guided experiences in classes, workshops, seminars or through the Professional Studies Course at the Academy.
As a vocational and technical herb school, this specialized knowledge is taught to foster self-care, family and community herbalists, to build their confidence and to inspire use of plants and foods for healing.
The curriculum is based on philosophy of traditional Scottish herbalism and ethnobotany. The herbs, so common and rugged, can not be deforested, powerful and yet so safe have been in use for thousands of years. The practical mind-set of their application and an approach to wellness reached its popularity in the Medieval period, being sought after world-wide. The medical findings of these learned- to- common folk is now being proven by science and incorporated into 'western' herbalism while being distinctly and powerfully a healing system of its own.
Students of the Academy learn through lectures and experiential training how to apply herbalism in their daily lives. They additionally are trained to identify, research, garden, harvest, make preparations, formulate, dispense, guide, coach, consult, excell, give confidence and to empower others.
The Academy classroom is located inside of Mrs. Thompson's Herbs in the historic depot district of downtown Eugene, Oregon.
